Our commitment

Directed Energy is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We are continually improving the experience for all users and applying the relevant accessibility standards to directedenergy.com.

Conformance status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) define requirements to improve accessibility for people with disabilities, at three levels: A, AA, and AAA. We measure this site against WCAG 2.1 Level AA.

Our status is partially conformant. That is the W3C's own term for a site that meets the standard except in specific places, and we list every one of those places under Known limitations below. We use it deliberately: WCAG conformance is all-or-nothing, so any site with a known gap that calls itself conformant is overstating.

How we support accessibility

• Accessibility is built into this site's own HTML and design. We do not rely on a third-party accessibility overlay or widget.
• Every page declares its language, carries a unique title, and uses semantic structure with a main landmark and a "skip to content" link.
• The site is operable by keyboard, with a focus indicator chosen to stay visible on both the dark header and the light page.
• Every content image carries a text alternative; decorative images are marked as such.
• Form fields have accessible names.
• Text meets the contrast ratio Level AA requires, and the reduced-motion preference is respected.

Known limitations

We would rather name these plainly than leave you to find them. If any of the following stands between you and what you need, contact us and we will get it to you directly.

• Downloadable documents. This site links a large library of datasheets and manuals as PDFs, and the older ones are not fully tagged for screen readers. Ask us for any document in an accessible or alternative format and we will provide it.
• Video captions. The handful of videos on this site are hosted on YouTube and carry automatic captions, which are useful but not error-free. If you need a corrected transcript for a specific video, contact us and we will supply one.
• Embedded third-party content. A small number of pages embed material served by other providers, including the YouTube player. We do not control their markup, and their accessibility may differ from the rest of the site.
• Older imported content. Some article and application-note pages carry text brought across from the previous site. We are working through them as they are revised.

Assessment approach

We assess accessibility by self-evaluation, combining automated testing with manual keyboard review, and we repeat it as the site changes.

The most recent sweep, on August 7, 2026, covered all 113 pages. It confirmed that every page declares a language and a title, that all 706 content images carry a text alternative, and that every form field has an accessible name. Contrast was measured rather than estimated: body text reaches 16.4:1 on white, links 7.4:1, and white on the navy header 18.2:1, all of which clear the stricter Level AAA threshold. One grey used for secondary labels fell short at 2.9:1 and was darkened until it passed. A visible keyboard focus ring was added in the same pass, in a blue chosen to clear the 3:1 non-text threshold against the dark header and the light page alike.
